ADD:

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a neurological condition that affects a person’s ability to focus, concentrate, and manage tasks. It is considered a type of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)—specifically, the inattentive type, and is commonly referred to without the “hyperactivity” component.

Key Characteristics of ADD:

  • Difficulty maintaining attention or staying focused on tasks
  • Easily distracted by irrelevant stimuli or thoughts
  • Forgetfulness, especially in daily routines (e.g., missing appointments, losing items)
  • Disorganization
  • Trouble following instructions or completing tasks
  • Avoidance of tasks that require sustained mental effort

Diagnosis and Treatment:

  • ADD is usually diagnosed in childhood, but can continue into adolescence and adulthood.
  • Treatment may include a combination of behavioural therapy, educational support.
  • Lifestyle strategies—like structured routines, time management techniques, and support systems—are also important in managing symptoms.
