Stuttering is a speech disorder where a child may repeat sounds, syllables, or words, stretch out sounds, or have trouble starting a word. It’s common for young children to go through a phase of stuttering as they learn to speak, especially between ages 2 and 5.
Some children outgrow it, but for others, stuttering can continue and may need support.
Repeating parts of words (e.g., “b-b-ball”)
Getting stuck on a sound
Pauses or blocks while trying to speak
Visible effort or tension during talking
Speech therapy can help children speak more smoothly and confidently. Early support is often most effective.
